Abbott's Scouts

Looking for information on a group known as Abbott’s Scouts (or Abott’s Scouts). They only appear once in the Official Records, late in the war, and under the command of Capt. W. R. Abbott. They are attached to Vaughn’s brigade. Late in the war they made a raid into western North Carolina (Toe River Valley/Yancey County), and shot at least three people.

I’ve searched both Broadfoot and NPS’s Soldiers and Sailors, and I cannot identify Abbott.

I am not sure that they were from Tennessee, but since most of Vaughn’s command was from Tennessee, I thought this a good place to start.

Anyone have any information on Abbott and his Scouts?

Thanks,
