The Tennessee in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Knoxville newspaper list of Conf. soldiers

Brownlow was a STAUNCH Unionist, and anything he wrote was pro-Union all the way. I seriously doubt he would have written anything as to a roster in his newspaper. I have read many of his editions, and he never had anything good to say about a Confederate. Sorry, but he was not seem the kind of man who would have devoted his time and space to this sort of thing and you may correct me if I am wrong. He did print some Union rosters in his articles about the Sultana, but i never saw anything much on the Confederates, except to say when they were defeated. He wrote many articles about the Civil War activity in East Tennessee, and he always had bad things to say about the Rebels.
