Thanks very much. I was mostly looking for some first-hand accounts of the actions they had witnessed, specifically the fighting at Raymond, Mississippi on May 12th, 1863.
The unit was ordered to make a feint on the Union left flank, which was behind a stretch of woods surrounding a creek. Unbeknowst to the 1st TN BN, there was a 22 gun battery obscured behind that stretch of woods, refusing the Union flank. The 1st TN appears to have suffered nearly 43 K/W/M in a matter of minutes, I'm sure the sudden eruption of the woods in a shower of fire and lead must have been terrifying.
Do you know if any diaries or letters exist from Colms' Battalion?
