My GGUNcle Russell B. Hill, b. Feb 1821 in Burke/now Yancey Co. NC, D. Jun 1902, McMinn Co. TN was said to have served on the side of the Confederacy during the Civil War. His brother Stephen Hill, my GG Grandfather fought for the Union. I would love to order my Uncle's military records--whether union or confederate-- and found a document in Ancestry.com's Civil War database that seems to suggest he applied for a union pension, but I can't read it. I would be pleased to email a copy of the document to any interested party.
