According to the records of John B. Lindsley, George W. Sherrell (Shirrell), Co. A, 28th TN Infantry Regiment, died December 25, 1862, long before Chickamauga and just before the Battle of Murfreesboro, TN. He likely died of disease or illness and probably at Murfreesboro.
