I am looking for information on J.J. Cox. Cox was commanding a battalion or company of CSA Cavalry in Kentucky in September and October 1861. He is listed as a Major while in Kentucky and a Captain at the battle of Shiloh. I suspect that his was a Tennessee Cavalry Battalion but am not sure.

I have searched the Soldiers and Sailors site and can not find a JJ Cox as a commissioned officer.

Any info appreciated
