Dear George:
I found some post-war info on one trial against Gillespie taken from "Mountain Rebels: East Tennessee Confederates and the Civil War, 1860-1870" by W. Todd Groce.
page 136:
...In Bradley County, a number of Union men successfully sued on grounds of false arrest and imprisonment, one plaintiff obtaining judgements against Congressman William H. Tibbs, Col. James W. Gillespie and Elizah F. Johnson for twenty thousand dollars.
footnote cites: "Knoxville Whig and Rebel Ventilator, May 17, 1865. [Brownlow's paper]
I will continue to do research on these post-war trials.
Best regards!
Doug
