I was reading this string of post and happen to look up the 8th TN Cavalry U.S.A. on the TenGen Web page. It was composed of some previous units one of which named was the 5th TN Cavalry. One of the Captains mentioned was George W. Kirk....is this the George W. Kirk who formed the 2nd and 3rd NC Mounted Infantry? I've read about him and thought maybe this was the same man....some of the troops were from Greenville and I believe Kirk lived there.
