Dear Mr. Jacobson: Your book is marvelous. The style is amazing. Chapter 8 reads like a nineteenth-century "Song of Roland." Your last chapter on page 403 creates a sense of suspense even though your book is a work of non-fiction.

Your bibliography is most impressive. Please advise me as how to access sources like "Bright Skies and Dark Shadows," published back in 1890. I am a researcher who sees old sources listed in bibliographies, but, unless these sources have a recent reprint, I don't know how to get my hands on them. You frequently refer to Faust's Civil War encyclo-pedia; how did you evaluate this source? On page xiv in your "Preface," you speak well of Wiley Sword's book. I've read about Sword telling lies about General Hood in newsletters put out by Sam Hood; now I would like to hear your side.

I met you last November at Carnton Plantation, but I don't expect you to remember me as there were so many visitors for the 143rd Commemoration of the Battle of Franklin.

Please let me hear from you.
