I have run across a source that states that Company H, later Company A, nicknamed the Attakapas Rifles, under Captain William D. Bethell, was a Louisiana company. The nickname would seem to support that notion. Bethell had been born in Louisiana, but his family moved to Memphis when he was a child. He was living in the city when the war began. Some things I have seen in print and on the internet indicate that the company was raised in Memphis. Any experts out there who can help clarify this little mystery for me?
