I have been told of that. It was William he saved at Indian Creek (Battle of Red Banks). William lost his leg due to that fight. William went on to have a family after the war and moved to Marysville/Maryville, Tennessee, after spending some time in Illinois after the war. William Kirk was postmaster in Marysville/Maryville. I would very much like to find his descendants.
George Kirk ended his days in California.
I don't know where James went (Tennessee I suppose)& I would very much like to find his descendants as well.
Francis Marion - just 14 when he joined the Union - died a few years after the war and is buried near Limestone, Tennessee. I don't know how he died, but would like to know. Last year I visited his grave and someone had placed flowers there, so I believe someone knows of him and perhaps knows what happened to bring on his early death.
John, my grt grt grt grandfather went to Illinois after the war.
