Many years ago I was told that Captain William Ausmus took his home guard from the Speedwell, TN area to enlist at the Union Army Camp Spears in Knox Co., KY. My four Grayson and Davis ancestors enlisted on 3/6/1862 in the subject unit. Does anyone know of facts to back up that "home guard" story? Thx.
