Re: info. on Battle at Danville crossing

Hi James-

My grandfatherX3 was Seth Outlaw. He lived in Danville along with my fathers fathers side of Hardison Daniel. You can confirm what I am telling you through census. Hardison Daniel had one son James M. Daniel in the 50th CO. H. James became ill with measles around the first of Feb.62 and wanted to go home to get well and was permitted to. He only lived 11 miles from Ft. Donelson. I never have been able to find out why but Hardison Daniel and James Daniel had their homes burned and James's young wife Clementine was killed by the yankees. James had to raise his 2 boys alone.
and never remarried. I wonder if some Confedarate troops where sent to Danville to protect the ferry and the railroad and the Union soliders attacked there. It was quite a port at that time. Southern Stewart county became part of Houston county in the later 1870's where Danville is. I will do more research.

I went about a month ago there. They started the ferry back up in Nov. of 07 to crossing the Tennessee River to
Benton county and we rode on that. (holds 8 vehicles) The old railroad track built in 1860 hangs halfway into the river along with a grain warehouse that somehow still survives in the water. Everything there seems so unchanged from the past.

If John G. Beaty was killed there I am sure he was buried there. What County was he from? Possibly he is buried at Cane Creek Cemetery where alot of other Confederates where buried. It is also my family's (Outlaw cemetery) I am sure if a rebel died there at Danville our family would have had a decent and honorable burial for them.

Also a man that runs the relic store in Dover has a little book donated to him from the 51st listing some names if you would like to contact him.

Erin Library in Houston county has great old newspaper clippings. This is where my sister found yankees killed family members and buried them and burned the house.
