Re: Causes of death for Tennessee CSA POW soldiers

You could probably find something on the Tennessee Civil War Homepage, or on a page dealing with the prisons. Several of my Civil WAR ancestors died as prisoners. LT Richard Copass,Co.E, 60th Tenn. Mtd.Inf. died and was buried at Johnson's Island. His brother John V. Copass died at Fort Delaware and is buried at Finn's Point. Both were captured at " Big Black River Bridge " May 17,1863. There is a book in our local library ( Kingsport,Tenn.) the title is " Confederate POW's who died in Northern Prisons " or something to that effect. In some cases it lists " cause of death " ( usually terms not used nowadays.) You could probably find something in the " Offical Records " set of books if you have acess to one.

Good Luck,

Glenn Land
