George --

The actual service record reads a bit differently. An original member of the "Pepper Guards", RRB evidently served through the first year's campaigns until wounded at Seven Pines VA on May 31, 1862, where General Hatton lost his life. RRB appears as present on roll during the Battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, where Archer's Brigade opened the battle during the early morning hours of July 1st. He was captured during the fighting at Falling Waters MD on July 14, 1864, and sent to Old Capitol Prison at Washington DC. RRB was exchanged at City Point VA on March 6, 1864, and furloughed after medical treatment. RRB's wound was received on June 26th or June 27th, both dates appearing on different documents in his records, his left leg being amputated.

Here's a history of the regiment, which helps to desscibe the service of RRB --
