I found some information on Rootsweb on John Louis Taylor Sneed. He was born 12 May 1820 in Raleigh, NC to Julius F. Sneed and Julia Rowan Taylor. He married twice. Served in Mexican War. Buried at Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis having died 29 July 1901 in Memphis. Was a lawyer that became a very prominent man. The sites did not mention what he did after Shiloh until 1870 when he became the Judge of State Court (1870-08). In 1888 he became the president of the Memphis School of law. I would venture to say that his age and having his fill of wars was the reason for the end of his military career.
