M. Bryant Ipock

I am looking for information on my ancestor who was alleged to have served in the Civil War, by the name M. Bryant Ipock. He was born May 15, 1819 in N.C. He married Rebecca Robinson on Oct. 10, 1844 White Co. Tenn. He lived in White Co. Tenn. from this time to around 1886 where he perchased land in Webster Co. Mo. Bryant died on April 5, 1900 in Webster Co. Mo. According to information in the book "History and Families of Webster County, Mo.page 744., "Bryant was issued a 160 acre land grant for his service during the Civil War." In another book on the history of Seymour, Webster Co. Mo. that was submitted by Frank Ipock page 194 indecates that he served in the Union army during the Civil War. One source gives his first name as Major. Here in Missouri I've checked Union Pension, 1890 Special Census for Union Veterans and widows, Missouri GAR,Mo. State and National Archives records and have so far found no listing for or variations of his last name. I checked with the Tennesee State archives for their Civil War records and received a list of known Union veterans serving from Tenn. which there was no listing for his name. I searched online information for White Co. Tenn. and have found no information indicating that he served in the Civil War. Could he have served in possiby a local or State Militia in Tenn. During or after the war and how would I go about finding this out?

Any help would be greatly appriciated
