Hi Paul,

I can help you with Riggins Hill anytime. The OR report cited by Peggy does not contain much information at all for the fight - and the headline had the dates wrong. It lists New Providence as happening before Riggins Hill and, geographically, Riggins Hill comes before New Providence on Highway 79.

We have pinpointed the battlefield now and will be doing a historical marker for it. The old Riggins house and barn are long gone but Riggins family members have shown us where they were.

For the best account of the battle - and it was more the Union artillery shelling the tar out of Woodward's troops for an hour before they broke - see the account by the embedded Cincinnati Commercial reporter who was with Col. Lowe's column that day which was published in Moore's Rebellion Record, Volume 5, Pages 609-611. It is loaded with details that Lowe left out.

Hope this helps - and please do come to the Clarksville CWRT meetings. We would love to have you with us! I just posted the notice here on this list.
