Don't mean to derail your thread, but the defense of Ft. Henry intrigues me. If memory serves me correct, you and I spoke about Tilghman once and you agreed with me the Confederates fought a very good battle. I believe you were critical of Tilghman for a number of things, including staying behind with the batteries instead of going to Ft. Donelson with the infantry.

Most of the details I learned are from Ed Bearss and (Cousin) Ken Byrd. Do you see anyway that better use could have been made of Ft. Henry on Feb. 6, 1862? Perhaps Tilghman did some things right that day. I am no fan of his, just an admirer of the 90 odd heavy artillerymen.
