For Confederate units, many of the companies and batteries can be identified by location or county. Were the companies from Union Tennessee units also from specific geographic areas, counties, etc?

I am researching an ancestor, named William Henry Jones (very common name), who was a Corporal in Co. C of the 5th Tennessee Infantry, U.S. If I could identify the county or counties, from which, this company was recruited it would help me focus my search.

I already have his service record and pension application file.
