What evidence does the family have that Curtis died in 1863?
"Died 1863. Curtis was in the Confederate Army and was killed or died on his way home to Monroe County, Tennessee."

George, I copied that information from the Audie Murphy Memorial Site. I know it by heart...sharing a common lineage...but copy and paste is a lot easier than typing. The Memorial Site got it from the Dockery Family Association...now defunct...I was a member as were quite a few descendants of the Carolina Dockerys and Lunsfords. Also members were Nadine Murphy (Audie's sister) and Angelia Cox (Audie's niece). They were the ones who contributed the Killian-Murphy genealogy. In our old newsletter "Hanging Dog Echoes" it says Curtis Gill was killed (or died) on his way home to Monroe County TN. His widow left Monroe County TN with her daughter and son-in-law for Collin CO TX in 1888. The son-in-law was named Jefferson Davis Killian. Father of Murphy's' mom Josie Bell Killian.
