I tend to believe that many of the Confederate battle reports may have been due to the in-fighting going on in the high command. It seems that Perryville started a great dissatisfaction among the general officers in Bragg's ranks. That came to out-right insubordination after Murfreesboro. Some officers seemed to never write reports while others wanted to compare notes and possibly absolve themselves while roasting Bragg. The Confederates also lost so many field officers at Murfreesboro that getting meaningful reports were also very difficult. Yes, there were so many reasons why those reports did not get finished.
