3rd Lillards Mounted Infantry

I am seeking information on my Great Great Grandfather William Jordan Clayton, pension# S11171, County Knox and Monroe or McMinn. He was in 3rd Lillards Mounted Infantry.

I can locate bits and pieces on the internet..I am retired army staying in the Phillippines.

My father's name is Owen Edward Clayton, born Knoxville, TN; Grand Father Harvey Owen Clayton born in Sweet Water; Great Grand Father William Graham Clayton.

William J. Clayton:

Born: 31 Aug 1835 Place: Knoxville, Knox, Tn

Died: 18 Sep 1917 Place: Knoxville, Knox, Tn

Buried: Place: New Gray Cemetery, Knoxville, Knox, Tn

Married: 14 Jun 1860 Place: Sweetwater, Monroe, Tn

Does any one know about New Gray Cemetery in Knoxville..are the older graves maintained? How can I establish a direct linkage to William J. Clayton?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Very Respectfully,

Gary E. Clayton
