Edward W. King in Fayette & Haywood Counties

Last week, I identified one of my great great great grandfathers as Edward W. King. The 1860 census shows him as "E.W. King" in Fayette County, "3-Dist." Listed with him is his wife Sophia and two sons, including my gg grandfather John (J.R.). The 1870 census shows the family in Dancyville, just over the county line in Haywood County, under the listing "Edward King." The 1880 census shows Edward W. King and his family in Lonoke County, Arkansas.

I am interested in ascertaining if Edward W. King served in the War Between the States. The 1860 census states he was 40 years old; however, the 1870 and 1880 census indicate he was as young as thirty in 1860, and his wife's and children's ages would support a younger age.

I am also interested in information concerning the Fayette/Haywood County area during the war. I am familiar with some of the actions in the area, such as Collierville and Britton's Lane, as some of my North Mississippi ancestors' units participated in those actions and I have already researched them for the family history I am compiling.

Also, does anyone know the area of Fayette County that would have been associated with "3-Dist"?

Any help given would be greatly appreciated.
