I found the (a) Maryland connection. Tyler was living in Baltimore in (at least) April, 1860. States he's Colonel, 1st Maryland Regt, Knights of the Golden and was apparently acting as corresponding Secretary of the organization at that time. Letter indicates he had been there for about a year.
