Good Lord willing, I'll be 62 in February and been interested in the " late-unpleasantness " since I was very young. My widowed paternal grandmother and both my maternal grandparents sort of " fed " that interest when I was small by relating ancestor / relatives both Union and Confederate they remembered hearing about and in some cases actually knowing. I've lived in Kingsport,Sullivan County,Tennessee all my life and like you enjoy researching Civil War Veterans in my family tree. My East Tennessee " home-grown " Yanks " jinned " the Cavalry but I thought you might be interested. My paternal grandmother ( whose husband's grandfather from Wilkes County,N.C. fought under Lee. ) was Annie Blakely Land. Her grandfather, Jackson Blakely joined the Union 8th Tenn Cav Co G on 22,Sept 1863 in Sullivan County. After less then a month he was captured at Zollicoffer, ( present-day Bluff City ) Tenn on 19,Oct 1863. His CMSR states " missing in action and presumed captured " He died a p.o.w. somewhere in Virginia " on or about 15,April 1864." according to his widow's pension papers. Jackson's older brother, William A.Blakely and William's son,James H.Blakely joined Co.A 1st Tenn Cav at Camp Garber,Ky in March 1862. Both father and son survived the war. James was reported as being the last member of the 1st Tenn wounded during the war in Feb 1865. Jackson and William's brother, Henry Blakely ( my grandmother's father was named after him ) went the other way and joined the Confederate 61st Tenn Co.B ( from Hawkins County,his wife's home. ) Henry was paroled at Vicksburg but was shortly hospitalized in Alabama and died their Aug.12,1863.
