OUR PROGRAM

"Nashville In The Civil War"

Nashville, Tennessee fell to the Union Army of the Ohio in February, 1862 and the city remained under Union occupation for the rest of the war. While very much a cosmopolitan city in ante-bellum times, Nashville would undergo a powerful transformation while under that occupation. Hospitals, supply buildings, barracks and much more were built or made from existing structures as thousands of troops moved through the city.

Using many period pictures, Jim Hoobler of the Tennessee State Museum, will offer a vision of what the city was like during this time frame and help us understand what the people who lived there felt when confronted by Union troops in their daily lives. It is a revealing and often humorous look at how people coped with a new pressure on their lives.
Jim Hoobler is Curator of Art for the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville and an expert on Nashville in the ante-bellum era. He is a former editor of the Tennessee Historical Quarterly and has been a member of the Tennessee Historical Commission.

Please join us for a wonderful program by Jim Hoobler of the Tennessee State Museum.
