Pension legislation in most Southern states wasn't passed for twenty years or more after the war ended. The number of children didn't matter since they would have been grown by that time. Confederate pensions weren't available in other states. If the widow was still living about 1900 and had not remarried, you should check a pension index in her state of residence.
