I see on the TNGenWeb page that both the 5th and 6th TN Mounted Infantry USA were involved at McLemore's Cove fighting Gatewood. I'm wondering if Gatewood was a regularly commissioned Confederate officer? About all I know about General Vaughan is he was involved in trying to help Jefferson Davis escape at the end of the war. I've often wondered what happen to Vaughan, I've never seen a bio. on him.
