The Tennessee in the Civil War Message Board

Re: 3rd TN Mounted Infantry USA

I had a ggggrandfather,Quenius Eisenhour(Cocke County), who served in the 3rd TN Mounted Infantry. A few months ago, I read the website history you referenced. I am doing a civil war book for my family with chapters listing areas (i.e. East Tennessee) and regiments involving our ancestors. I also recently read "Mountain Rebels" and "War at Every Door."

The unit apparently had an interesting makeup -- 3 month term, deserters from both sides, one officer killing another, etc. My ggggrandfather started in the 62nd Tennessee (C.S.A.), apparently spent some time hiding out thereafter, then was in the 3rd TN Mounted Infantry. He may have deserted from it as well (the website history you listed states his company lost about have its men to desertion in the 3 months it existed), as he ended the war in the 8th Tennessee Infantry (U.S.A.). His three brothers were all in the 4th or 8th.

I would be interested in any further information anyone may have about the 3rd (or the 4th or 8th, or Cocke County during the war).
