The Tennessee in the Civil War Message Board

Middle Tennessee CWRT February Meeting

The next meeting of the Middle Tennessee CWRT will be at 7 PM on Tuesday February 16, 2010. We will meet at the Heritage Center of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County (225 West College Street in Murfreesboro).

Our speaker will be Jim Lewis, Park Ranger at Stones River National Battlefield and MTCWRT member. Mr. Lewis will share William Holland’s Story.

William Holland’s life changed drastically during the Civil War. Born a slave in Kentucky, Holland would ultimately seize and fight for his freedom during the war and become a part of a new community that left its mark on the fields where the Battle of Stones River raged. His story, besides being filled with changes and challenges, illustrates one of the most important outcomes of the American Civil War.

The Middle Tennessee Civil War Round Table meets every third Tuesday of the month at the Heritage Center of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Membership applications are available at each meeting. Membership costs $15 per year for individuals and $20 for families. All meetings are open to the public regardless of membership status. Each meeting will include time for interested parties to share stories and memorabilia from the Civil War era with the membership.
