A. R. Bowen, age 30, enlisted as a 2nd Corporal in Captain W. G. W. Jowers' Company, Crump's Battalion Mounted Volunteers* November 4, 1861 at Camp Crump by W. G. W. Jowers for 12 months, relieved as 2nd Corporal May 8, 1862 and reduced to the ranks, recorded as in a Knoxville hospital on December 31, 1862 having been admitted sometime in Sept/Oct., no further records

[Note: I would believe he never returned to his command as subsequent company muster rolls exist and his name apparently does not show. He very well might have died in a Knoxville hospital and is buried there. A so called re-organization of the army took place in May 1862, he must not have been re-elected Corporal and reverted to the rank of Private. I will ask a friend if they have any records of a Knoxville burial]

* This company subsequently became Company F, 32nd Regiment Texas Cavalry

The 32nd (also known as the 15th) Regiment Texas Cavalry was first organized November 4, 1861, as the 1st (also known as Crump's) Battalion Texas Cavalry. It was increased to a regiment, by the addition of independent companies, and dismounted May 8, 1862.
