Tennessee Interment, Augusta, Ga

In Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta is a small section of only 16 graves, used primarily for the burial of Federal soldiers who died in Augusta during the war or during the Federal occuapation 1865-66. However, two of those bried there are Confederates.

One of the burials is Thomas E. Newell, F/10 TENN, marked with a VA marker for a Federal solider. The stone indicates he was born in 1818, and died in 1864. I have not checked to determine if indeed he was in a Federal unit from Tennessee, or if he was in a Confedrate unti and the wrong marker was used.

The cemetery is in perpetual care and the graves in this section are meticulously maintained.
