Loss of critical historical sites

I am 36 years old and have just recently realized how many civil war battles were fought in the state of Tennessee. In Greene County, where I live, The Battle of Blue Springs was fought. The area does a reinactment of this battle every year, but it is not held on the original Battlefield.
A highway runs through the middle of the original Battle site. Yes, I know the Civil War is a topic of many arguments. But, this is a part of our history and must be discussed, explored, and protected. This should be done, if for no other reason than to let our country remember that we are One Nation United and that we never forget what so many men lost their lives to accomplish. We must preserve our history. I have said all this in hope that more people especially realestate, businesses, and our government, will stop and think before destroying anymore of our historical sites. For instance, there was a home in Greene County that had a history surrounded by the Civil War. The Lady that owned the home passed away a few years ago. In this home her family had run a make shift hospital in the attic and even hid soldiers from both sides there. The walls and floor of the attic were stained with the blood of the soldiers that were cared for and even died there. This house is no longer there. It was torn down and where it stood is a vacant lot leveled by dozers. My hope is that more of these homes will be preserved and not destroyed. What a loss our history suffers every time we lose places like this. I would like to have more info on organizations that help t preserve places like this. Thank you.
