That unit was originally Company B, 1st (Rogers') Tennessee Cavalry Regiment. Organized November 1, 1861 at Decatur, Meigs County then it became Company C, 5th (McKenzie's) Tennessee Cavalry Regiment. Company Muster Roll dated November 12, 1861, Cleveland, Tennessee has him as 35 years of age.
