Re: Turney's 1st Tennessee Regiment

Don,

I have three photos of Felix Buchanan, but I am still looking for one for his wife, Kate.

There are several articles about the Major in the "Confederate Veteran (including Turney's "The First Tennessee at Gettysburg")." In the 1894 volume on page 143, it relates how he was severly wounded at Fredericksburg and left for dead- he survived and returned to the regiment. He was wounded seven times during the war, but was never sent home. He wrote home to his father from Richmond on Jan. 2, 1865 that he was recovering from his latest wound, and while he was advised that he should not return to duty for several more weeks, he said he would return the following week "as there is no field officer present."

His letters from Cock Pit Point in Dumfries, Va. in early 1862 are very enlightening about the Confederate Blockade of the Potomac River at that point of the war.

Let me know if you need anything else about him.

John
