Re: Pvt. Isaac Stout
In Response To: Pvt. Isaac Stout ()

Doug,

Private Isaac Stout was indeed a member of "A" Company, DeMoss' 10th TN Confederate Cavalry. His CMSR shows him appearing on a list of Prisoners of War who were paroled at Louisville KY on 4 April, 1863, and delivered to City Point VA. That roll indicates his capture was effected at Brentwood TN on 25 March, 1863.

"City Point VA, April 11th, 1863. Rec'd this 11th April 1863 from Capt. Seligson, Co. C Vermont Vol. two hundred and ten (210) Confederate Prisoners of War - J.H. Thompson, Capt. Commanding. City Point" - this was the reference on the CMSR envelope. That, and one other card with the above Louisville info were the only two in that record bearing the name of "Isaac Stout". There are however, in the same file. 3 other cards that appear to have the first initial of "D" period, then the last name of STOUT. It may be that they have erroneously transcribed the record, mistaking the "I" for a "D". They read as follows:

D. Stout, Pvt. 10th Regt. TN appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War at Nashville Penitentiary ***, roll dated Nashville, March 31 1863. It declares his capture being at Brentwood on March 25, 1863.

***Certificate on roll signed by Jno. A. Martin, Col. & Provost Marshal, shows that the Prisoners of War were "forwarded from Penitentiary at Nashville TN to Louisville KY on the 31st day of March 1863"

Another one says "D. Stout, Pvt. 10 Regt. Tenn Cav appears on a register of prisoners of war. It again indicates capture at Brentwood TN on March 25 1863, but adds "sent to City Point VA April 4, 1863".

And the other one says "D.Stout, Pvt. 10 Regt. Tenn appears on a register of Prisoners of War, Department of The Cumberland. It states that his capture was at Brentwood on March 25 186? (had to be 1863), and that the capture was effected by "US FORCES". It indicates that he was forwarded to Luuisville on March 31, 186 (2 or 3) (has to be "3" looking at the other cards)

The CMSR has no other cards that I see.

Hope this helps a bit!!!

ROY
