Re: Southern Unionist in E.Tenn.(Knox,Blount,Sevie

Paul -

I am working on a book on Daniel Ellis. Perhaps my web site at <http://www.nku.edu/~ellisa/danielellis> may be of use to you.

My secondary research is, I think fairly comprehensive, while my research into primary sources has scarcely begun. I will be on sabbatical in spring '05 for travel and research and am planning my strategy now. I would appreciate it if you would share any information that may help me, and I will be happy to return the favor.

I have never seen Confederate documentation pertaining to Ellis. Was there really a price on his head? I'd surely like to find proof. Please don't let my last name have any bearing on what you might share. I recently spoke with a fellow who is adamant that Ellis was a phony, and that no serious scholar would take his book seriously. You probably know that such viewpoints are out there, and I am not averse to hearing them, and have every desire for my book to be a fair and balanced account, but I must insist that there be something to back them up, which this fellow could not provide.

Thanks and Best Wishes,

Allen
