CSA UNIT FOR STEWART CO. UNCLE..??

Hello -

am once again soliciting any thoughts, ideas, suggestions re just how I might finally identify the CSA unit that my ggg-uncle, Riley Marion Byrd might have served in.

He is buried in the Stalls Cemetery in LBL and lived in Byrd Hollow nearby (south of Panther Creek).

I recently obtained a copy of the 1910 census for Stewart County, TN (page 142, 9th District, lines 30-34) which indicates that Uncle Riley had indeed served in the CSA. This collaborates with (1) claims made by his 96-year old granddaughter that he was a Confederate soldier, and (2) a listing in the LBL cemeteries book by Judith Ann Beam (Maupin) which also lists him as a CW vet.

I have been so far unable (for the past 10 years or so!!!!!) to discover any document which would provide his unit, in either Tennessee or Kentucky (they lived along the Tennessee River across from Calloway Co. KY).

Riley's older brother was captured at Ft. Henry on Feb. 6, 1862 (see URL below); another older brother served in the 9th/12th Missouri Inf. CSA. Could Riley have been in a partisan unit..????

Any and all input VERY greatly appreciated on this persistant puzzle. Thanks for help!!!!!

y.v.o.s.,

Kenneth Byrd
