Captain "Doc" Smith

I am trying to find someone who knows about a Confederate Captain (?) called "Doc" Smith. On September 3, 1863, he was operating outside Corinith Mississippi, either as militia, guerilla command, or under General Phillip D.Roddey. He may also have operated in Western Tennesse and Northern Alabama. His task was collecting prisoners and mounts from the Union Mounted Infantry troops who strayed too far from camp either foraging for food or recapturing loose mules and horses. I would appreciate any ideas for further reseach or information on this man.

Thank you,
