Re: Sullivan County Home Guards

Dear Allen: Good luck on your project. Of course with politics being what they are I do not feel Southrons will be cast in a favorable light. Henry and Isaac Nave are buried in Crumley Cemetery, Hikory Tree Road in Sullivan County. It is a large cemetery and well maintained. Best direction can be obtained on the Sullivan County website. Henry was a justice of the peace and commissioner in Carter County and was 56yrs when he was killed. He was a lay Baptist leader in the same church as Capt. Dan. Isaac was a veteran of the Cherokee War and enlisted as a Pvt in Co K, 61st Mounted Tennessee Infantry. He was 54 yrs when he was killed. Both were rather old for front line soldiering thus the Home Guard. Robert Nave, author of "Teeter Nave East Tn Pioneer" knows a great deal of unwritten history about Ellis and the Naves. If you are in upper East Tn. Contact me at Claymore1@ComCast.net and I will forward his info. Deo Vindice,Dennis
