My gr-grandfather's brother, James Monroe Lampley (sometimes listed as Lamphey or Lamphrey), fought with this unit. He was the only member of his large family that fought for the Union. He was captured at Union City TN in March of 1864 and sent to the prison at Andersonville GA. He died 21 July 1864 and is buried there. My gr-grandfather named one of his sons James Monroe in his honor. Ironically, my great-great-grandfather on my grandmother's side fought with Forrest and was present for the capture of the 7th TN at Union City TN.
