mr. j m brice a newspaper publisher of troy tn in the late 1800s interviewed a mr harris who claimed to be an eyewitness claimed it to be a feud of the darnells and lanes the lanes were trying to leave the country and were ambushed . the darnells killed two lanes and and a friend named cull ewards. i refer the book by r.c. forrester, b. woods ; i had a real good time (the making of a country editor) p.s. the ambush happened at a riverboat landing as the boat was taking on passengers.
