Engagement at Honey Springs, I.T.

Another reminder that we have an on-going research project here at the Honey Springs Battlefield Historic Site.

We are seeking brief biographical sketches of anyone who fought in this engagement (17 July 1863). While there is no "formula" for what we are seeking, we would like the following information, if available: Birth date/place, parents, marriage(s), children, pre-war residence & occupation, wartime service and ranks, post-war residence & occupation, death date/burial place. Also, if available, a copy of a photograph from any time period would be appreciated.

When the permanent Interpretive Center is completed, we will display the bios/photos on three walls of the conference room (where an a/v program on the battle will be shown).

This project relates to members of the 5th Texas Partisan Rangers (Col. Leonidas Martin), the 20th Texas Cavalry-Dismounted (Col. Thomas C. Bass), the 29th Texas Cavalry (Col. Charles DeMorse), Gillette's Squadron of Texas Cavalry (Cpt. L. E. Gillette), Scanland's Squadron of Texas Cavalry (Cpt. John Scanland), and Lee's Light Battery of Texas Artillery (Cpt. Roswell W. Lee).

Texans also served in the various Indian regiments 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles (Col. Stand Watie), 2nd Cherokee Mounted Volutneers (Col. William Penn Adair), 1st Choctaw & Chickasaw Mounted Volunteers (Col. Tandy Walker), 1st Creek Mounted Volunteers (Col. D. N. McIntosh), and 2nd Creek Mounted Volunteers (Col. Chilly McIntosh).
