Here are some hints, but I can't find a G. E. Kunze in Texas or Missouri rosters.

Texas

The only officer listed for Texas is a Capt. Frederick Gates who is shown as a commander of Company "K" of the 16th Texas Cavalry (CS).

Missouri

Gates' 1st Missouri Cavalry includes an N.C. Kouns in Company "K".
