Dear Diana,

I am NO expert on the 29th Texas Cavalry and my interest in them is in regard to their service in the Indian Territory; however, I do own the book "Suffering To Silence; 29th Texas Cavalry, CSA". From it, there is little additional information other than this company was recruited in Lamar County, TX and F.C. Poteete and S.H. Poteet are listed as privates.

I did a quick search at Ancestry.Com and believe I know the names of these men. On page 94, Precinct 1 of the 1860 Lamar County Census is listed one, Fenton Poteet. On page 94, Precinct 2 is list a Sam H. Poteet, age 15, living in the household of a Thomas J. H. Poteet, age 54, a farmer born in Tennessee. By the birthplaces of the children, it would appear the family moved to Texas ca. 1842-1843. Could Sam H. have been "Sam Houston" Poteet?

You may already have this information, but if you'd like to have the complete census listings for these men and their families, I'll be happy to provide.

Jim Martin
