My wife's great grandfather, R.S. Lyles enlisted in Taos, Texas Oct 31, 1861 as a pvt in Capt Anderston Whetstone's Co., Lock's Regt Texas Volunteers elected 3rd Lt May 8, 1862 Co., H. 10th Texas Cav. 1st Lt. Aug 1, 1862. Served in all the major battles of the 10th Texas. Was wounded and captured at Chickamagua. Rescued by his regiment and returned to duty after stay in hospital. He was promoted to Captain Co., H. 25 Sept 1863 after the death or Capt W.D. Sommers. Capt Lyles was one of the Soldiers of the 10th Texas mentioned wounded at the Battle of Allatoona, Ga.
Capt Lyles was killed March 31, 1865, probably in the Battle for Mobile. His friends returned his pocket Bible to his wife in Rusk Co., Tex at the end of the war. Would like to have any information about his Regiment or others of his Co., We have a Photo of Capt R. S. Lyles in CSA.
