Organized in late 1862, the 30th Tex Cavalry was first known as the 1st Texas Partisan Rangers and Commanded by Colonel Edward Gurley of Waco, Texas. They served in Louisiana in defense of Vicksburg and in 1863 were stationed at Bonham, Fannin Co.,Texas. Remainder of war the operated in the Indian Territory and Arkansas. They saw action at Poison Springs, Arkansas, and at Cabin Creek and Fort Gibson, Indian Territory (Oklahoma). My gg-grandfather was James Martin McGuire, Sergeant, 30th Texas Cavalry.
