Re: 1st Regiment, Texas Heavy Artillery

Flo,

Do you want information on the total regiment or is there a specific company ( or company name ,e.g.Dixie Grays, or commanding officer) that you are interested in ? Virtually all of the companies of the regiment stayed in Texas and participated in defending Galveston. Looks like one of the companies ( Co.F, Davis Guards ) was with Dick Dowling's wild Irish gunners at Sabine Pass in 1863. Also, try Ken Jones website for more info. The action at Sabine Pass is thoroughly documented . The recapture and defense of Galveston, while not as incredible and outrageous ( Confederates were out gunned, and out manned , yet victorious) as the affair at Sabine Pass , is also well documented in several excellent books.
Holler if you need help finding them.
Best Regards, Craig Morin
