Re: Confederate Veteran Home in Austin

My great grand uncle died at the Confederate Home in 1937. He was well known to my mother and uncles. His Confederate Pension file has a lot of detail about his care and how employees at the home befriended him and managed his burial attire, state sponsored expenses, etc. He was buried at the family cemetery in East Texas. That must have been a very compassionate organization.

Here is a brief excerpt, "I am related to the pensioner as Friend and Undertaker...1100 Colonial St., Austin, Texas..13th day of August 1937". Uncle Tom was 94 years old.
